METG is committed to providing scholarships to METG-sponsored workshops at ASPIRE and the Healthcare Symposium to expand access. Scholarship amounts and the number of awards will be determined annually based on TG funds and associated workshop fees.
Qualifications:
Open to both students and professionals.
Priority given to students and early career professionals with demonstrated financial need.
Nomination/Application Procedures:
Applicants may be required to submit a short application describing what they hope to get out of attending the METG-sponsored workshop and a statement about their financial need/situation.
Applications are reviewed by a TG awards committee.
Award Criteria:
Demonstrated need.
Clear interest in learning and applying macroergonomics principles.
Jointly with the IEA Organizational Design and Management (ODAM) Technical Committee, the METG recognizes and supports outstanding early career contributions in the field with the Ted Brown and Hal Hendrick Young Investigator Award. Presented triennially at the International Symposium on Human Factors in Organizational Design and Management (next hosted at the University of Connecticut June 8–10, 2026). The award honors the legacies of Ted Brown and Hal Hendrick, pioneers in ODAM and macroergonomics, and is intended to both acknowledge achievements and foster career development. The award is associated with a small honorarium.
Qualifications:
Early career investigators within five years of graduation from their terminal degree.
Must be both the first AND presenting author of a full proceedings paper accepted at ODAM (lecture or symposium).
Nomination/Application Procedures:
Eligible candidates must submit their name for consideration.
No separate application materials are required.
Award Criteria:
Quality and originality of the full submitted symposium paper.
Effectiveness and clarity of the presentation delivered onsite at ODAM.
Contribution of the work to advancing the ODAM field and macroergonomics.
METG provides support for students participating in the annual HFES ASPIRE: Advancing Systems and Practice through Inclusion, Research, and Engagement conference (starting 2026). Travel awards are for $500/each, and the number of awards will be determined annually based on TG funds. The awards will be presented at the METG business meeting.
Qualifications:
Must be presenting macroergonomics-related research at ASPIRE.
Note: It is not required that this research be presented within an METG-sponsored session.
Status as either a student (enrolled in the current academic year) or a member in transition (graduated in the last academic year).
Nomination/Application Procedures:
Students submit a brief application including their accepted paper or abstract, a statement justifying their work’s relevance to macroergonomics (if not being presented within an METG session), and a statement about their financial need/situation.
Applications are reviewed by a TG awards committee.
Award Criteria:
Relevance of the student’s work to macroergonomics.
Financial need.
